The launch of Mormon Radio, a new official radio station of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at radio.lds.org, includes an exclusive interview with Rome Italy Stake President Massimo De Feo, who discusses the Church in Italy and the reaction of the Saints to the Rome Italy Temple announcement.
The Rome Italy Temple is currently in the design and planning phases. The groundbreaking took place on October 23, 2010.

Becky Fitches was in her apartment watching General Conference last October when Thomas S. Monson, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced that a temple would be built in Rome, Italy. “I yelled then cried for joy!” the former missionary who had served in one of 3 missions in Italy recalled. “I had been waiting for about five years so [I was] more than ecstatic!”
Some friends of other faiths may wonder why all the excitement over what will become the 12th temple of the Church in Europe—especially if some of the excitement comes from people who live on the other side of the earth. True, a temple can be an indicator for the strength of the Church in any given area. A temple in any given area is a symbol that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is well established. But whether or not there is an extra amount of anticipation over a temple being constructed in Rome is beside the point.

Another monument to the beauty and holiness of the Lord, a Mormon temple– where worthy individuals are endowed or imbued with divine power and renewal through instruction and service–is underway in Rome, Italy.
Many wonder what takes place in temples. Reading the Old Testament is enlightening in this regard and helps us see the consistent pattern of the Lord in desiring a sanctuary, a holy place, wherein His Spirit can most fully dwell and where His ordinances (symbolic rites like baptism and confirmation, for example, for those who have passed on without a knowledge of the gospel) can be performed. Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are absolutely amazing on so many levels. The Rome, Italy Mormon Temple will be no less so, and I’m personally thrilled about this beautiful divine development. On a personal level, I feel as if I’ve grown up spiritually in so many ways as I have entered and served in the House of the Lord. From the Washington DC Mormon temple to the Mount Timpanogos temple, from the Bountiful to Orlando Mormon temples, I have grown, served, and received quiet unmistakable revelation and left armed with greater clarity and power to live, as I’ve participated in the Lord’s service in those holy edifices. I’ve also grown up spiritually as I’ve received ordinances for myself (promise-making sets of instructions and beautiful rites) and then extended the same opportunities to loved ancestors by proxy in each House of the Lord.
